I must admit, I love Korean beauty products, and working in the beauty industry, the pressure is multiplied to have impeccable skin. 1. Give your face a steam massage in the shower.

Skin clinics are down every block in South Korea, where you can get a facial massage as easy as a budget manicure. I recommend not only using circular motions with your fingers, but also tapping in rotating motions — starting on the forehead, then the cheekbones, cheeks, and working down to the jawbone. Massaging increases circulation and creates a dewy complexion. For added benefit use an oil cleanser to maximize hydration.

2. Exfoliate with a washcloth soaked in hot water.

My aunt is 70 and has no wrinkles. Her secret? She uses a nubby washcloth to massage her face every day, using upward moving, circular strokes.

4. Try blurring to create HD perfect skin.

You know when roll out of bed and think OMG, how do I hide all of this? Try the Korean blurring trick, which basically means using one or several smart coverage products (my go-to is Iope’s Air Cushion foundation) with a makeup brush to wipe out and “blur” unwanted imperfections. 6. Bring out the natural flush of your lips.

By merely enhancing your own lip color, your complexion will actually look younger and more vibrant. Try a favorite of mine, Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Awakening Lip Balm, which adjusts to the individual chemistry of your lips, making them radiant. And with wild mango as one of its moisturizing ingredients, it smells positively amazing.

7. Try a lip tint/oil for your lips.

9. Drink barley tea.

Ever gone to a Korean restaurant and gotten a nutty tasting tea? It’s probably roasted barely tea, which is what is served to Korean babies from birth to fortify their skin and overall well-being. Barley tea is rich in anti-oxidants and one study showed that drinking it can improve blood circulation. Some suggest it may even double as a weight loss drink. You just can’t go wrong!

10. Crack open an ampoule for any skin SOS.

First things first: an ampoule is like a face serum on steroids. It contains the highest concentration of active ingredients to repair, rebalance, and recharge cells in the shortest amount of time (Dr. Grandel’s Beauty Flash is my favorite). At the very least, you’ll get a relaxing, surprisingly pleasant half hour to yourself — so yeah, they’re worth it

These are all good basic skin regimens that may help with the acne battle: Cleanse gently twice daily. Apply a gel or cream containing 5% benzoyl peroxide; an alternative is sulfur or resorcinol. At night, apply a spot cream containing sulfur to the affected areas. Use a light skin moisturizer and water-based makeup.

Here are 30 simple ways to prevent and get rid of acne.

• Learn what type of skin you have so you know how to treat it.

• Find out if you are allergic to anything.

• Wash your face day and night.

• Wash your face after sweating.

• Avoid towels on your face.

• Don’t over-wash your face. This has adverse effects.

• Exfoliate once or twice a week to get in a deeper cleanse.

• Add a toner in your skincare routine.

• Use SPF every day even indoors.

• Stay hydrated. Drink plenty water. Dehydration causes breakouts.

Dealing with spots can be bad enough, so the annoying aftermath can feel like metaphorically rubbing salt in your wounds, but unless your skin is damaged to the deep layers of the dermis, these reddy-pink or brown marks will eventually disappear.

While patience is key, there are some ways to speed up the fading of discolouration that remains after a spot. Try these tips for a brighter-faced future:

Always wear sunscreen

Try to avoid prolonged sun exposure as it will make the skin’s healing process slower, and wear a broad spectrum SPF daily to prevent the marks from appearing more obvious. UV exposure stimulates pigment production, causing spot scars to darken, so sun protection really is key to fading discolouration.

Exfoliate with AHA and BHA

What-HA? AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid such as glycolic and lactic acids (think anti-ageing), while BHA, or beta hydroxy acid, refers to salicylic acid (think anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory) and both AHA and BHA are exfoliants that will promote a more-even skin tone. A combo of the two will help to encourage the rejuvenation of the skin, without you having to scrub your skin red-raw and cause more damage. Many  years ago I decided to stop shaving my legs and switched to waxing. I was sick of ingrown hairs and the little red bumps that formed on my lower legs from an old school razor. (Note to readers: If this is already too much information, this article is probably not for you.) Waxing your legs, I soon learned, is wonderful—for three days. Then the hair begins to creep back in and you are stuck with it for at least 9month, throughout my pregnancy moments. It was so hard, that everything single on me grow so fast. At that time I knew I have to try Laser after the arrival of my baby. No more of this back-and-forth business, I decided. It was time to look into a more permanent option.

I remembered first hearing about laser hair removal years ago when people were first talking about it and thinking, “Eek, that sounds risky, I’m going to wait and see if this goes the way of the LaserDisc or the DVD.” Basically I wanted to make sure it was legit and worth the time, pain, and cost.

The way laser hair removal works, I soon discovered from a quick bit of precautionary research, is that pulses of highly concentrated light are emitted from the laser into the hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles absorbs the light and that destroys the hair. When I read that 90 percent of laser hair removal patients who are good candidates for the procedure report permanent hair loss after an average of three to six sessions, I was sold. “Chewbacca be gone,” I vowed to myself. “Next year, I am getting my legs lasered.”

My interest was particularly piqued by the spate of at-home laser treatments recently on the market. Could it be that easy? An investigation into the leading brands revealed some intriguing contenders, from the Tria 4X (an FDA-cleared device that claims to deliver more than triple the hair-eliminating energy of its DIY peers) to the IluminageTOUCH (which is approved to safetly treat a wider of skin tones than traditional lasers). But while the convenience of zapping away on my couch while watching Law & Order: SVU was seductive, none seemed quite right. I can barely operate my electric kettle—should I really be handling a laser?

“I advise caution because they’re supposed to be much less intense than in office lasers but in the wrong hands you can probably do some serious damage if you’re double- or- triple pulsing areas that you shouldn’t be,. “Typically people at home tend to be aggressive with themselves because they think that they can get a faster, better result without realizing potential consequences.”

I learned that in order to have bikini-worthy legs this season I would need to start the laser process in peak tights-and-boots weather. “Hairs have a growth phase and also a resting and a falling-out phase,. “Some of the hairs are not there right now because they are in the rest phase and not every hair will respond to the pulses.” Hence the need for multiple sessions, spaced about one month apart, the typical length of a hair-growth cycle.

 

I am next instructed to put on a pair of bottle-green goggles. Before we begin, she shares with me the one description of laser hair removal I have heard before: “It feels like a rubber band being flicked against your skin multiple times.”

Either I am wrong, or my pain threshold is incredibly low, because I find laser hair removal excruciatingly uncomfortable. In fact, I start to think, I would take a flick of a rubber band any day over the repeated burning zap of the laser. It feels like someone is taking a lit match to my leg and holding it up close. The darker the hair, the coarser it is; therefore more energy is emitted onto that follicle, causing greater discomfort. When those hairs are zapped, it feels like a bee sting—and you just have to hope there aren’t too many.

Clearly I’m not alone in this. Nearly half a million laser treatments were performed by dermatological surgeons in 2011 (the last year that collected data is available) according to the American Society for Dermatological Surgery, so it must be worth the minor suffering. Most people who get laser treatments are focusing on smaller areas of hair—underarm, upper lip, bikini line. These areas also happen to be much more sensitive: The very idea of getting my bikini line. These areas also happen to be much more sensitive. The lower leg, on the other hand, is one of the largest areas that they laser and it takes about 25 minutes altogether for both legs upon each visit.

By my next appointment I begin to see a real difference when I visit. The laser picks up a lot more “energy” when I find the whole experience far less painful. For several days following each treatment, I have a series of small red bumps on my legs and this actually elates me because I know it means that the laser has picked up that follicle and when the redness dies down that spot will be hair-free for life—a delightful thought as summer, and a season of confidently wearing my favorite miniskirt, begins.

Natural Remedies For Irritable Dry Skin

1. Coconut Oil Is No Secret

After spending this last summer traveling the Baltic on a cruise ship, I developed extremely dry skin, and it’s only gotten worse since returning to the U.S. The seasons were changing, and I desperately needed a quick pick me up when I ran out of products on the ship.

My husband was working as a singer, so he used coconut oil periodically to help soothe his vocal cords. After several days at sea, my face became really dry that I needed something quick to relieve the flakiness and that’s where Coconut Oil became my best friend.

Coconut Oil is commonly used for cooking, but it’s also filled with nutrients as well medium fatty acids. It contains something called Lauric acid; a common nutrient in breastmilk.

These two nourishing qualities are the perfect combo for moisturizing your face. If you have oily skin, I would recommend using just a dime size, but for me, there are no boundaries to how much I put on.

2. Just Add Honey

Need a scrub to help with dry patches on your knees or feet? You can go all natural with sugar and honey scrub. You can even add a little milk or coconut oil to make it creamy and less dry.

Also, did you know that honey is great for preventing acne? Yes, really! It’s antibacterial which helps with acne prevention as well as anti-aging. You aren’t limited to just a scrub when it comes to honey.

You can also create a natural honey face mask.

Make sure to buy quality natural honey, anything else is filled with artificial sugars that could cause breakouts. Just add a little water and smooth it out upon your skin.

Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and feel the texture of your skin be as smooth as a baby’s bottom.

3. Got Milk? Try A Milk Cleanser

For years I have settled for a dehydrated face after I use of my daily face wash. Have you experienced that?
