The amazing Nigerian women’s bobsled team

The amazing Nigerian women’s bobsled team.

By Editor, November 22th, 2017

nigeria

The 2018 Winter Olympics will begin in PyeongChang in just eight short weeks, and there will be a flurry of talented, interesting, and inspirational athletes competing for medals. But there are three athletes you should definitely get to know: Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga, and Ngozi Onwumere, who make up the first ever Nigerian women’s bobsled team. Their journey to the Olympics has been phenomenal and unlikely and right now is a great time to learn a bit more about these wonderful women.

THEY’RE ACCOMPLISHING A HISTORIC FIRST
When Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga, and Ngozi Onwumere take the track in PyeongChang, they’ll be the first Winter Olympians from Nigeria. Adigun, who is the driver, will be the first bobsled driver to represent an African nation in the Olympics. While the three women are not from Nigeria, all of their parents are from there, and that’s how they’re able to represent Nigeria in the Winter Olympics for the very first time.

Adigun told BuzzFeed News that she knows how special and important this Olympic moment will be for her, her teammates, and for many others.

“Making it to the Olympic Games will be a very pivotal moment in not only the history of Nigeria and African, but also in the sport of bobsled,” Adigun wrote. “Everyone is aware of how special this situation is, and we are all in agreement that the foundations of this team need to be solid.”

THEY’RE ALL TRACK ATHLETES
Like several athletes on the women’s bobsled team at the 2014 Winter Olympics, Adigun, Omeoga, and Onwumere are all track athletes. Adigun, who had the idea to compete in bobsled for Nigeria, competed in track for Nigeria in the 2012 Summer Olympics. According to NBCOlympics.com, Adigun met Omeoga, a University of Minnesota sprinter, through a mutual friend. And she knew Onwumere, also a sprinter, from her time as assistant track and field coach at the University of Houston. And it didn’t take much convincing for Adigun to get them on board — they all jumped right in together.

THEY WERE ON “ELLEN” RECENTLY AND TOTALLY SLAYED
I’m not sure if you could find three women who have more fun than the Nigerian women’s bobsled team. They went on “Ellen” in early December and had the time of their lives.

THEY RAISED MONEY FOR THEIR BOBSLEDDING ON GOFUNDME
Bobsleds are expensive, and so is training, ice time, athlete insurance, and assorted bobsledding gear. So they started a campaign on GoFundMe to raise the cash. But in the meantime, Adigun built a wooden practice sled through trial and error. After a few tries, she got it right, and the team uses it to practice pushoffs on an indoor track.

If you’re wondering how they practice on an indoor track, Adigun posted a video of one of their practice sessions on Instagram last year.

By the way, their GoFundMe was fully funded and raised $75,000 to help the ladies achieve their goal.

THE NIGERIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE HAS BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE
Getting a winter-less country like Nigeria to support a winter sport could have been difficult, but Adigun told BuzzFeed News that they’ve had a lot of support.

“The first Vice President, Chief Solomon Ogba, has played a very important role in helping us get set up and acquiring the full support of the remaining NOC executive members,” she said. “We are actually very blessed at Nigeria’s initiative as a unit in supporting something that has never been done before.”

Adigun also told Ellen that Nigerian citizens are also incredibly excited, even though most have never seen a bobsled and aren’t sure what it is.

THEY’RE STILL LEARNING HOW TO BOBSLED
With their team less than 18 months old, the trio is still learning how to bobsled. Adigun talked to Ellen DeGeneres about how she feels at the end of every race.

“To be honest, we’re still learning how to do bobsled. I, fortunately, have been in the sport for, this will be my third season, but my first season as a driver fully is this one. Imagine taking a 16-year-old who’s just learned how to drive and throwing them in Daytona [500]. It’s one of those things where, yeah, he knows how to drive, but it’s a whirlwind. Like, every time literally I cross the finish line I’m screaming because I’m like, ‘Thank God we survived!’”

Since they’re still learning, they don’t measure up to the bobsled teams from other countries like the U.S. and Switzerland, at least not yet. The trio is keeping their expectations realistic, striving to learn and gain experience.

Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir Luxury wedding worth of $1.7 Million in Miami

Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir Luxury wedding worth of $1.7 Million in Miami

By DCWLifestyle October 17th, 2017

Gucci Mane Marries Keyshia Ka’oir in Lavish Miami Ceremony
The big day has finally come: Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir have walked down the aisle

Ka’oir stayed with Mane throughout his most recent stint in prison, for a highly publicized murder charge which was eventually dropped. In his book The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, he wrote that after he went back to prison, he got sober because he “wanted to be able to go on tour and have the energy to put on a show for my fans…I wanted Keyshia to lose her mind when she came to pick me up.”

The big day has finally come: Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir have walked down the aisle.
The pair were married Tuesday evening at the Four Seasons in Miami, Doublecrown confirms.

Ka’oir, who walked down an elevated aisle, shared a photo of her bedazzled wedding dress and jeweled headpiece on Instagram and Twitter along with the caption: “Mrs. Davis #1017.”

A who’s who of hip-hop and Atlanta’s social scene gathered for the ceremony which cost a staggering $1.7 million.

Guests included Sean “Diddy” CombsReal Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, Karrueche Tran, Lil Yachty, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Monica, Big Sean and Jhene Aiko.

The couple chronicles the road to their extravagant wedding in Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir: The Mane Event, — a 10-part special premiering on BET at 10 p.m. — in which fans will get an up-close look at all that went into crafting the nuptials.

“I want a royal wedding!” Ka’oir, 32, declared in a PEOPLE exclusive clip ahead of the show“All white with diamonds and crystals.”

Along with her excitement, Ka’oir also expressed some frustration in the clip, saying, “I don’t know if it’s the wedding. I don’t know if it’s the fame … I don’t know if it’s because who my husband is gonna be. Everybody going coco-loco on me.”

Earlier this week, the lovebirds shared sweet photos of their wedding rehearsal, with the rapper, 37, surprising his leading lady with a new car.

“His and Hers Guwop bought his wife a Wraith!” Mane captioned an Instagram photoof himself and Ka’oir posing in front of cars.

He also shared a photo of himself sporting a wide smile in a red and black suit, writing, “Waiting on my bride!!! #KeyshiaAndGucciWeddingRehearsal.”

Mane popped the question in November 2016 during an Atlanta Hawks game — and the NBA shared the sweet moment on Twitter for the world to see.

In the video, Mane and Ka’oir can be seen on the “Kiss Cam” before the rapper presents a shocked Ka’oir with a huge sparkler. The team’s mascot, Harry the Hawk, was also on hand to congratulate the couple, giving Ka’oir a bouquet of roses.

After the proposal, Mane shared several photos of the happy couple on Instagram. “She said yessssss!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky me,” Mane captioned one photo, alongside a pair of Santa emojis.

In a separate post, he showed off a close-up view of Ka’oir’s stunning diamond ring. “She deserve it!! My bride to be!!#Wopsters luv you my baby,” the Atlanta-native captioned the video.

When Karl Met Kaia: Could Gerber Be the Next Lagerfeld Muse?

By Editor, September 25th, 2017

When Karl Met Kaia: Could Gerber Be the Next Lagerfeld Muse?

If there’s one designer who is loyal to his models, it’s Karl Lagerfeld. Other brands may switch up their catwalkers every season, but once a girl moves into Lagerfeld’s inner circle, she’s there for life. From perennial muse Inès de la Fressange to Chanel fit model Amanda Sanchez, a connection with Lagerfeld can last decades, all of which makes this morning’s developments especially interesting. Stepping onto a Milan runway for the first time, Kaia Gerber opened Fendi’s Spring 2018show in the plaid stripes that were the collection’s primary motif. Looking refined, as usual, Gerber added another key presentation to a lineup that already has her in the running for model of the season. While impressing the likes of Raf Simons, Marc Jacobs, and Alexander Wang is no small feat, it’s Lagerfeld who has the potential to take her into the stratosphere. Just ask those other headline-making modeling-world sensations Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner.

With three high-powered brands under his purview—Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous label—Lagerfeld is in the unique position of having the final word on multiple campaigns and contracts. And since he shoots editorials during his spare time, he also happens to be an influential photographer capable of selecting his favorite models for prestigious covers. As such, his seal of approval can be particularly powerful—capable of taking an unknown and transforming her into a household name. While we’ll have to wait until the Chanel show in Paris to see if Gerber is an official member of #TeamKarl, all signs say that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Eniko Parrish‘s bun is almost done!

The pregnant wife of Kevin Hart — who is expecting the couple’s first child together, a son they plan to name Kenzo — shared a new photo to Instagram Wednesday.

Posing in front of a portrait of Eddie Murphy and surrounded by two dogs, the 33-year-old showed off her growing baby belly in a navy tank top and matching leggings.

“My mom wanted a pic of the bump this morning so I gave it to her. I look exactly like my bitmoji right now. ” wrote Parrish, adding, “Yup. We’re still baking over here. #36weeksandcounting”

The Instagram post is the first Parrish has made since Hart, 38, shared a photo of his pregnant wife, along with the caption, “Thanking God for this beautiful strong woman that I am lucky enough to still be calling my wife today. You are truly amazing….Love you.”

Hart’s message to Parrish came weeks after the actor and comedian found himself at the center of a media storm over an alleged extortion scandal.

In an emotional Instagram post last month, Hart addressed the alleged extortion attempt that included a “sexually provocative” video of Hart with another woman. In the Sept. 16 video, the star apologized to Parrish and his children (he is also dad to son Hendrix, 9, and daughter Heaven, 12) for the incident.

A source told PEOPLE in late September that Parrish “is fully cooperating with the law enforcement investigation” in regard to her husband’s alleged extortion scandal.

“She is standing by Kevin’s side,” the source said. “They are dealing with this together.”

Earlier that week, a second source told PEOPLE of Parrish, “She has been hounded by the press, and is very upset. She is trying to stay healthy and enjoy her pregnancy, but the latest drama is too much.”
